24-25 Food Program

AppleSUSD School Meal Policy Summary

Safford Unified School District is happy to announce our acceptance into the Community Eligibility Provision Programs (CEP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The Community Eligibility Provision is part of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. This provision allows eligible school districts to provide breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students at no cost. The district will continue to follow the reimbursement process with the state to access federal dollars. This means your child will be counted if they receive a meal, but not charged. This eligibility is up to four years: School Years 2024-2025, 2025-2026, 2026-2027, and 2027-2028.

Some changes moving forward will be no meal applications will be needed to be eligible to eat free. There will be no free or reduced label because everyone is free.

Previous lunch debt owed to the district will still need to be paid. School lunch is a federal program and all money received is federal money so the district is not allowed to erase the debt. If you owe money please call the district office (Susan Carrasco (928)348-7006) or your school secretary to pay. Payment plans are also available.

The change of no meal applications collected can impact the funding for other programs such as the district’s Title I and E-Rate funding. To ensure that the district continues to get full funding for these grants, SUSD will be sending out an income survey. SUSD asks that every household complete this survey because this data will impact our Title I and E-Rate funding.

Sincerely,

Frank Gutierrez
