    Dear Bulldog Families:
We hope that you and your family are doing well.  This has been a stressful period of time for families, our staff, our community and beyond.  We are so grateful that we still have the means and opportunity to be able to work with you and support our students in their efforts to not only continue with their education, but have some semblance of stability through this time.
Our goal with this communication is to clarify how grades will be handled from now until the end of the school year.  The administrators listed below met Thursday morning via Google Meets and came up with the following guidelines direction.  As always, grades are primarily a way to provide feedback to students about their academic performance from each teacher.  Promotion and graduation will be on hold until we know for sure what state-wide restrictions will be in place for that last week of school.
Many of the academic standards were completed prior to spring break.  In some cases, fourth quarter material is review, enrichment, or preparation for next year.  Below are some important points of interest and information about how we will end school concerning grades.
       •  The starting point for grades at the start of the school
closure will be what students ended the 3rd quarter
We will "finalize" 3rd Q grades for anything
assigned and graded prior to spring break.
       •  Our goal is to educate and support your students, with
          education being a stabilizing factor.
       •  Grades will not go down, but can possibly be
improved  - no more than one grade level up.
    We are
          still tracking assignments through (Google
          Classroom or PowerTeacher)
Missing assignments will not count as zeros, but will
show as missing assignments so you know what your
          child has or hasn’t completed.
       •  One of the goals during this period of time is to make
sure students are prepared for moving forward
          next school year.
       •  Kindergarten students will not receive a 4th quarter
          report card.
       •  If you’ve checked out a device from us, that device will
be due the week of May 18th.  More info will be coming
          on that.
Again, thank you for partnering with us to make sure our Safford students are receiving instruction during this school closure.  We appreciate and care about our Bulldog Family!

Naomi Lowery - Ruth Powell Principal

Grade A

  • Letter A         "A" SCHOOL

Ruth Powell Elementary School has achieved a letter grade "A" from the Department of Education.  Grades are earned by each school based on their performance on the AZMERIT state mandated test that takes place in the Spring of each year.  An "A" grade means a high number of students at Ruth Powell School in the proficient and highly proficient categories on the test.

Our teachers work hard each year to get the students to perform well on the test.

Congratulations to our students, out teachers, you parents, and our school for achieving an "A" letter grade.

Arizona Tax Credit Donations

  • field trip

Arizona tax law allows married couples filing jointly to take up to $400 in tax credit or $200 for singles if they donate to extracurricular activities. This tax credit is available to all taxpayers, even if they don’t have children in school. Contributions are donated directly to the school, not to the state or even to the district. Though contributions to public schools have always been tax deductible, a tax credit is subtracted from the amount of taxes you owe. A tax credit is a full refund of your money. You can choose what school/teacher or  an extracurricular program you would like it to go to. Teachers use this money to pay for class field trips.
