New 2026-2027 School Hours for Safford Schools
The SUSD Governing Board approved a new "swapped" schedule for the upcoming school year to better support our students and families.
What’s Changing?
Elementary (K-6): Starting earlier (approx. 7:30–7:45 AM) and ending earlier (2:30–2:45 PM).
Secondary (7-12): Moving to a later start (8:35–8:40 AM) and ending a little later (3:45–4:00 PM).
Why are we doing this?
Our elementary students struggle with a 4:00 PM release, and working parents need a schedule that allows them to get to work on time. Science also shows that older students perform better with a later start.
We are sharing this now to give everyone plenty of time to plan for next school year.

The School Board approved the 2026-2027 School Calendar at the Board meeting on December 10, 2025. We appreciate all the parents and staff who completed the survey which gave input to help the Board make this decision. The Board placed educational needs of students and staff as a priority while making their decision.

This program utilizes funds from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) program to provide tutoring services to those students who may have been impacted during the pandemic and is free to qualifying Arizona public school students in grades K-12.
